Description: MeTop-XL-25 is used with or without other medications to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. This medication is also used to treat chest pain (angina) and to improve survival after a heart attack. This medication is a beta-blocker used to treat chest pain (angina), heart failure, and high blood pressure. Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems

What is Metoprolol MeTop-XL-25 for?

This medication is a beta-blocker, prescribed for high blood pressure either alone or with other medications. It is also used for chest pain, migraine and hyperthyroidism. It reduces elevated blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels.

Common side effects of MeTop-XL-25:

Common side effects are feeling lightheaded, sleepy, having blurred eyesight or a change in thinking clearly, feeling dizzy, and change in sex ability, feeling tired or weak, low mood (depression), loose stools (diarrhea) and low heartbeat.

What do I do if I miss a dose?

Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. Do not change the dose or stop this drug. Talk with the doctor.

What precautions should I take when taking Metoprolol?

Metoprolol may not be suitable for certain heart conditions. Alert your doctor if you suffer from any heart conditions.

When do I need to seek medical help?

If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug, these include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Signs of low mood (depression), thoughts of killing yourself, nervousness, emotional ups and downs, thinking that is not normal, anxiety, or lack of interest in life. 

Can I take MeTop-XL-25 with other medicines?

Alert your doctor if you are taking any other medicines, especially those listed here: - - other medicines for high blood pressure or heart disease, especially clonidine, prazosin. - Migraine medicines such as ergotamine. - Rifampicin (a TB medicine). Do not take antacids together with Metoprolol. Antacids may affect the effectiveness of Metoprolol. If you must take antacids, take it at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after you take Metoprolol.

How do I store MeTop-XL-25?

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children, medicines must not be used past the expiry date.

Category C: Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.
